Waitara East School is a state primary school in Waitara, Taranaki, approximately 20 kilometres north of New Plymouth. The school is in the rohe of Te Atiawa and has close ties to Owae Marae. The school was first opened in 1954.
Waitara East School and the community have a unique identity with sporting, leisure and cultural activities being very prominent. The school is well supported by whanau in academic, sporting, cultural, art and other school wide events.
